You could edit the global profile (depending on linux flavor)

/etc/profile

to include the export, you would enter it just like you did before.  I
believe that it would take for all users on the same system.

Hi Peter,

when saying that you do the "export" as root, do you
run the sendfax from the same shell? The environment
variable will only be visible there.
Try -h saturn.local Argument to sendfax (man sendfax), and if
that works, then set the FAXSERVER from a script
that is valid for all users. This will depend on
your linux distribution I suppose.
