[hylafax-users] Cannot get hylafax to play well with fax/modem

Printing/sending to fax a simple text file from kwrite I get a nice printing
hang and this is the logfile output from "Print to fax" (recipient and fax
number edited):

Sending to fax using: /usr/bin/sendfax -h 'hfaxd' -d
'<recipient>'@'<faxnumber>' -x '' -c 'Test fax' -f 'praedor'
/home/praedor/.kde/tmp-lapdog.ravenhome.net/kdeprint_xRlH70b

/bin/bash: -c: line 1: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''
/bin/bash: -c: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file

This is the associated /var/log/messages output (fax number edited out):

Aug 13 08:20:32 lapdog FaxSend[8511]: HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.1
Aug 13 08:20:32 lapdog FaxSend[8511]: SEND FAX: JOB 3 DEST <number> COMMID
00000005
Aug 13 08:20:32 lapdog FaxSend[8511]: DEVICE '/dev/modem'
Aug 13 08:21:40 lapdog FaxSend[8511]: SEND FAILED: JOB 3 DEST <number> ERR No
carrier detected
Aug 13 08:21:40 lapdog FaxQueuer[8462]: NOTIFY: bin/notify "doneq/q3" "failed"
"1:13"
Aug 13 08:21:47 lapdog FaxSend[8548]: MODEM LT V.90 DATA+FAX MODEM VERSION
6.00 LT V.90 Data+Fax Modem Version 6.00/
Aug 13 08:21:47 lapdog FaxSend[8548]: HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.1
Aug 13 08:21:47 lapdog FaxSend[8548]: SEND FAX: JOB 2 DEST <number> COMMID

Aug 13 08:21:47 lapdog FaxSend[8548]: DEVICE '/dev/modem'
Aug 13 08:22:54 lapdog FaxSend[8548]: SEND FAILED: JOB 2 DEST <number> ERR No
carrier detected

I then ran probemodem and faxsetup again and all went well (seemingly). I
restarted hylafax and then tried to "Send to fax" via Kdeprintfax (cups).
Nope. Nothing. This time, my log file from Kdeprintfax contained nothing to
indicate a problem, almost as if all went well, but there was never a
dialtone, never a dialing...nothing. In /var/log/messages is:

Aug 13 11:35:35 lapdog FaxQueuer[17875]: Missing ':' separator in modem group
specification
Aug 13 11:35:35 lapdog FaxQueuer[17875]: HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.1

Aug 13 11:35:35 lapdog hylafax: faxq startup succeeded
Aug 13 11:35:35 lapdog HylaFAX[17888]: HylaFAX INET Protocol Server:
restarted.
Aug 13 11:35:35 lapdog hylafax: hfaxd startup succeeded
Aug 13 11:35:41 lapdog HylaFAX[17898]: Filesystem has SysV-style file
creation semantics.
Aug 13 11:35:41 lapdog FaxQueuer[17875]: SUBMIT JOB 10

Nothing there to indicate a problem. Job was queued but 1) I cannot figure
out how to get a list of queued fax jobs, and 2) I cannot figure out why
nothing is happening.

With efax I get much further. I can run "fax send <fax number> <filename>"
from the CLI and it will pickup, get a dialtone, dial, connect/negotiate, and
start to send (though ultimately failing because of some improper modem
response or fax response on the receiving end). With hylafax I cannot even
get a dialtone.

How do I get this working? Where do I begin?

praedor
