Hey Joe:

Do not even bother with the smbfax utility - I worked on it for a week and
never got it running correctly - it is littered with errors.

When I finally hunted down all but the last problem, I emailed the developer
and was ignored.

Try the sambafax utility as described on the HylaFAX site - very simple.
