[hylafax-users] faxgetty "bad exit status"

My system:
FreeBSD 4.3
Hylafax-4.1beta2

been trying for a 2 week on and off now to get faxgetty to execute the
faxrcvd cmd.
I changed the faxrcvd command to print and convert to pdf when ever
its executed and can make a cron entry that will execute a script to
run faxrcvd when it find a new file in the recvq dir but I'd like to get

faxgetty to execute things instead.

no matter what I try it always gives me a:

I've tried even hard coding the long path name into faxgetty.c++ and
faxapp.c++
I've even occasionally got a bad exit status of 077400 but that's
because I was messing
with it.  FaxGetty is running as uucp and when it switches ID's its
still as uucp.
uucps home dir is /usr/var/spool/uucpublic. fax user home dir is
/usr/var/spool/fax.
owner of fax home dir is uucp.dialer file permissions is 755 on just
about everything.
in the bin dir its 751.  any one have ideas?
