Faxcron and faxqclean do cleanup tasks of the HylaFAX queueing areas,
specifically sounds like faxcron is running for you, it removes faxes seven
days of age or older according to man faxcron.
It sounds like your PDF conversion is going kaplooey with the your faxrcvd.
If you run faxrcvd manually what do you get for output?
