I think that all attempts to accomplish this have been frustrated.  If you
can make it work, it would be great... but the bottom line is that HylaFAX
needs to communicate with a "device".  So... generally if 'minicom' 'cu' or
'tip' can communicate with the modems, there is a good chance that HylaFAX
will work fine with it, too.

My guess is that there has to be some sort of underlying "driver" which
emulates physical serial ports on the local system and handles the
communication through the TCP/IP networking.  I would *highly* recommend
that between the HylaFAX system and the modem rack that there be an
isolated network (crossover cable?) to prevent any interference.
