[hylafax-users] [ANNOUNCE] GNU HaliFAX Viewer 0.21.0 (ghfaxviewer) released
The GNU HaliFAX Viewer 0.21.0, codenamed "stand up against FTAA!", has
been released
The GNU HaliFAX Viewer (ghfaxviewer) is the viewer of the GNU HaliFAX
Project, which is a GNU project dedicated to provide a free software
client-suite of applications for free fax systems, with HylaFAX(tm) as
its first target.
This release is a bug-fix against 0.20 which was not announced
publicly.
The GNU HaliFAX project comprises another component, GFax, which acts
as a sender agent for the HylaFAX and the mgetty+sendfax systems.
Changes since version 0.10 are various:
- the "standard" BSD LPR system is now detected and used properly;
- a FreeBSD port has been started by Dominik Brettnacher;
- images appears with some anti-aliasing, with yet another new
display algorithm that is faster than before;
- the display is progressive, which gives a better feedback to the
user about what is going on;
- integration with GNOME has been completed, and GNOME is now
considered as the main flavour of ghfaxviewer, as opposed to
previous versions which were more adapted to GTK+;
- ghfaxviewer can now save the window position and dimensions between
sessions on systems which support it as well as the last directory;
- a gnome-print backend has been added;
- the gnome version is using native gnome icons, with some taken from
the Eye of Gnome;
- a Polish translation was added, thanks to Zbigniew Baniewski;
- a couple of bugfixes;
- a couple of new bugs;
The official distribution site for the GNU HaliFAX project is now
located at:
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/halifax/
A webpage is currently under construction. A preliminary and temporary
version is available at: http://www.gnu.org/software/halifax/
A development page is available on Savannah, the GNU project's clone
of SourceForge. http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/halifax/
Binaries won't be provided anymore as there were problems with my
cross-distribution packages. That program is however ready to be built
for the Debian GNU/Linux and the RedHat GNU/Linux distributions.
Happy Faxing!
Wolfgang
