[hylafax-users] ANSWER: Ring detected without successful handshake - SOLVED

TIP:  Don't trust precomipled .rpm binaries.  This was a disaster for me.

System:    Red Hat 6.1 (Cartman)
HylaFAX:   HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.1beta3
LibTIFF    3.5.5
MODEM      U.S. ROBOTICS 56K FAX


I had a problem with HylaFAX not answering FAX MACHINE incoming calls.  The FAX 
machines were in China (I am in Hong Kong).  Here's what the log file says:
 
ANSWER: Ring detected without successful handshake

My solution?  Disable Adaptive Answer using faxaddmodem and changing the MODEM 
setup string(s) as follows:

OLD SETTING:   AT&FAA=1

NEW SETTING:   AT&FAA=0

Lo! And behold!  FAX documents started pouring in.
