Do you apply the option -c, that is clipping instead of wrapping a
line ? :-)
You could define the units i.e. inch, mm, cm, dd or whatever unit you
prefer . 
-Ml=1in,r=25mm, t=2.5cm
By the way, as faxmail reads hyla.conf you could create a file
/usr/lib/fax/hyla.conf and edit your configuration in this file. See
man faxmail, Configuration Parameters.
