But... without seeing your log, I'll bet that we're looking at the same
issue as:

http://bugs.hylafax.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=99

You may want to apply the patch, 
go into the source faxd directory (/usr/src/hylafax-4.1beta3/faxd),
run 'make'
run 'make install'
killall faxgetty

Try again.
