[hylafax-users] A Fix for Faxing from Adobe Pagemaker with WHFC

Have you ever tried to fax from Pagemaker with WHFC? If you try to fax
direct, you'll find that Adobe inserts a Ctrl-D character in your postscript
which overrides your printer setup.

See http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/141b6.htm for details on this.

The Control-D causes hylafax to choke. Here's the fix:

Download and install

RedMon from http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/redmon/

and the unix tools for dos Unix 95 Collection Version 7 package at
http://virtunix.itribe.net/mystuff.html

Make the printer with the same driver you use for your WHFC printer and
point it at the RPT port furnished by RedMon.

In your port settings, put
    c:\yourpathto\tr.exe
in the dialog "Redirect this port to the program" and
    -d \004 -
in the dialog "Arguments for this program are:" Don't forget the dash at
the end!

Then, copy stdout to printer and print to your WHFC printer. This will
strip out your Control-D (Octal 004 character) and pass it along to WHFC.

Hope somebody gets some use out of this.

John Baker
