Re: [hylafax-users] "Simple" (I hope) send problem
Thanks Lee
I started up faxgetty (/opt/HylaFax/lib/fax/faxgetty /dev/cua/b) and faxstat
now shows:
HylaFAX scheduler on solar: Running
Modem cua/b (1111111111111111): Running and idle
Im using version 4.1 beta 2 - latest version.
Im running on Solaris-8(sparc).
Im still getting the same error - and no extra messages.
Any ideas ?
Is there no way I can trace whats going on, to help me find out at which
point the failure occurs ?
Are there any other commands I can try ? log files to check ?
flags/parameters to change ?
Any idea where the error is coming from - is it "faxq" ?
The error message says the problem was with the "send" program - so is it
"sendfax" that is failing ?
It seems to complete OK :
# sendfax -d "rich@55555555" -N /etc/group
request id is 30 (group id 30) for host localhost (1 file)
# sendfax -d 555555555555 -N /etc/group
request id is 31 (group id 31) for host localhost (1 file)
# sendfax -d 555555555555 /etc/group
request id is 32 (group id 32) for host localhost (1 file)
I think I read once about a command called "truss" that may help for this
kind of thing - I'll take a look.
Any other suggestions much appreciated.

I believe that this is normal for the first time when you're not running
faxgetty. (Let me take this opportunity to urge you to use faxgetty even
though it is send-only - simply for the status information here.)

What version of HylaFAX are you using, and what OS? This message doesn't
mean "you don't have your phone line connected". You should get a message
saying "no local dialtone" back by e-mail if there is no line connected.

I've seen similar reports, though, perhaps 'exit status 0x8', but I believe
that they were resolved by using a newer version of HylaFAX (perhaps CVS).

You won't get any SessionTracing logs until a session starts - i.e. when a
fax is attempted. So no log means no fax attempt. If you turn up
ServerTracing then the standard messages sent to syslog will increase in
verbosity - but really, I've never gotten much out of these latter messages
when it comes to troubleshooting.
Anyway, turn faxgetty on with RingsBeforeAnswer set to zero. And perhaps
try out a newer version of HylaFAX.
