Nope, not a typo, here's the excerpt from the top of the file:
#! /bin/bash

Added them and tried to restart.... still the same error :(
To review, this is the error: (note: the ONLY thing /etc/rc.d/rc.local does is start
hylafax)
darkstar:/usr/src/hylafax# /etc/rc.d/rc.local
HylaFAX:/usr/local/sbin/hylafax: test: yes: integer expression expected
/usr/local/sbin/hylafax: test: yes: integer expression expected
hfaxd (without old protocol or SNPP support).
