Are you sure you have faxgetty in /sbin?
It seems you just replaced "faxgetty" where you found "getty".
If you look at the faxgetty man page you see there's no place for 9600
or VT100 on its command line.
Is /var/log/messages clean?

If you look into /var/spool/fax, do you see the FIFO.ttyAa fifo?
