I had a similar problem resulting in the famous "SEND recv RTN (retrain
negative)", I resolved it by forcing the data format to 1-D MR (Modified
Huffman) with the following command in config.ttyS0
#(vr),(br),(wd),(ln),(df),(ec),(bf),(st)
Class2DCCQueryCmd: "!(0,1),(0-5),(0-2),(0-2),(0),(0),(0),(2-7)"
the 5th brackets (0) corresponds to df: data format 0 = 1-D

and even tied to lower baud rate:

ModemRate: 9600
