Edit /var/spool/fax/etc/config.<devid>
SessionTracing: 0xFFF
ServerTracing: 0xFFF

ps ax|grep fax
you should see
hfaxd
faxq
faxgetty

kill faxgetty

now look at the system log, faxgetty should log everything it does.

If you posted the output of
faxstat -sdl
it would help.
