for SuSE (6.2-6.4), have a look at

The suse manual suggests (at install time)
to answer the make use of the continuation cover page feature of HF.
The symptom i had was that fax-retransmisson did not work because
the continuation cover page could not be created then.
I do not use cover pages so i guess if you do not enable cover pages
in general then continuation cover pages won't work either.
I did not have a chance to look at this, i just suppressed the creation
of the cont. cover page.

i think it is far from being enough to say "HF works with my modem"!

My experience is that you have to look these topics also:

- send only, if so, how many faxes/time, how many different fax machines?
- receive only?

if your version of HF does not contain Dmitry's RTC/RTN patches, then
there are reproducable transmission problems under very specific
circumstances:
- document encoding
- modem brand
- Class x operation of modem
- 1 page fax or fax with more than 1 page
- receiving fax machine

I did some testing (before Dmitry's patch) with USR and they looked good
so i took the modem to production and this was a desaster! What i had done
was just
sending single page faxes which did not provoce the RTN problem here, not
even during
days work at my customer. But when they started to run mass faxing at night
the sent out
faxes with more than 1 page!! You can image what happened next day.

I suggest to be very specific what mess "works here", otherwise it will of
little help
for others.

i do not know if everything is up to date, but there is lots of info
at http://www.hylafax.org/setup.html

an often presented problem is faxstat says "running and idle" but
no fax in the sendqueue is sent.

AFAIK there a 2 reasons:
- libtiff incompatibility
- faxgetty not running.
- wrong modem config file

Maybe you want to collect the archives for the given solutions?
