flexfax: help!! /etc/hylafax/hosts

im tring to run hylafax on a debian system. debian probides a precompiled
version that i have install, but after setting up the fax software,
faxserver hfaxd (i think) thinks that there are no users that can use the
fax daemond, i am using a USR Sportster 14.4 modem external, and yes i
have read the man page on hosts but no matter what i do i get the same
problem 

i have tryed telneting to the port on the server and trying to connect but
still with no sucess, i did get a connection but no when i tryed to login
to the fax server i tells me this

530 User neal access denied.
