Ok, you have confirmed that faxgetty is dead, and is so broken it doesn't 
even get far enough to tell you that you need to include the device name on 
the command line.

You should try replacing that file with the original binary, or re-install 
the hylafax package.

If this doesn't help, there may be an incompatibility with some of the 
libraries you have updated.  It might make since to upgrade Hylafax.  Here 
are some sites with SuSe RPM packages for installing the 4.1 version 
(thanks to George Zeigler):
