No, the thing is that _receiving_ doesn't work concurrently. So you have to 
decide: hylafax for receiving & sending -> no answering machine, 
mgetty&sendfax(including vgetty) for receiving, hylafax for sending -> 
answering machine. 

This works fine for me since several months.
