German "Umlaute" in Fax?

How can I enable german "umlaute" in a fax?

German "Umlaute" are characters which are represented
i.e. in HTML-files with "&auml; &uuml; &ouml;

Anyway, I would like to have those characters faxed in
normal text-messages. I always get =FC or similar things.
