I encounter this problem too
conf:
Solaris 2.5.1
hylafax V4.0pl1

ls -l /var/spool/fax gives:

prw-------   1 uucp     uucp           0 Aug 16 11:32 FIFO
prw-------   1 uucp     staff          0 Aug  3 13:25 FIFO.cua_0
prw-------   1 uucp     staff          0 Aug  2 09:20 FIFO.cua_1
prw-------   1 uucp     staff          0 Aug  2 09:22 FIFO.cua_2
prw-------   1 uucp     staff          0 Jul 12 09:07 FIFO.cua_6

(users uucp and fax have the same uid)
Faxserver and Faxqueuer are running probably

faxstate is so far the only command that don't work
any ???
