Thanks to all those who replied with suggestions to the textfmt and
phase b errors.

The textfmt-mailer patch solved the textfmt problem, while I had to
find a printer driver that suited our setup - it was the HP Laserjet 
4/4M Plus PS.  I also had to select 'EPS' in the print/properties/
postscript section of the Windows app.

Works like a dream now.
