He's actually in fine mode and received 2219 lines (the figure from the
FPTS message) but only got 17.  However, cover pages do tend to be short
so it is not uncommon for a cover page to be 300 to 400 lines, although not
that short!

I missed this one and didn't find DC1 rather than DC2 to be unreasonable
given that historically DC1 started a paper tape reader and DC2 turned
on the punch.  However, none of the standard configurations supplied
with Hylafax use DC2 and Rockwell chips certainly use DC2, according to
the generic Rockwell modem manual.  Short of buying the specs, it looks
like DC2 is right.

I wonder what it actually sent back in order to make Hylafax see 17 lines.

I'm certainly much more happy with this explanation than the flow control
one, in this case.

(DCx is device control x.  DC1 is also called XON and DC3 XOFF.)
