FW: EOP trouble

I've seen these types of errors too. What usually happens is that someone
will call me and complain that they get 3 copies of every fax I send. When I
look at the logs, it looks like their fax machine simply hangs up after
receiving the last page of the fax instead of doing the last little bit of
handshaking. I suspect a modification to the source code to ignore errors
after the last page is sent is needed.

Subject: flexfax: EOP trouble

More and more of these "No response to EOP or MSP" problem reports
appear on this list, as it seems. Normally USR/3Com are blamed for
this, as their Class 2.0 implementation is non-standard.
However, especially in the last few weeks weeks several users of
other modems (Non-3Com) have reported similar trouble.

Myself, I replaced my USR 56k Voice Fax Modem, thinking that this
would cure the problem. Now I have a Maxtech Net Pacer 56k Voice
Fax Modem. It is Class 2, so I thought, my troubles were over, now.
(A different make and a different protocol should really improve
things, I thought ;-)).

However, nothing changed. With certain fax machines I am still
having trouble. Not with fax modems, just with conventional (paper)
fax machines.

After the transmission of the last page (even if there is only one)
I get this error message.

No response to EOP repeated 3 times.

What does that actually mean? And what is it that causes the different
behaviour of fax machines (error) and fax modems (no problem)? I should
mention that the problem occurs with *old* fax machines. With newer
models normally everything is ok.

Any tips and hints and explanations will be greatly appreciated!

	Regards
		Peter
