flexfax: faxstate command and FIFO.XXX not found

I am running hylafax on a linux libc (2.0.34) system. I just got the
installation up and running.
I am only doing outbound faxing at present.

I run faxq, then faxmodem cua16

I can now sendfax successfully.

But faxstate cua16 returns:
	FIFO.cua16: open: No such file or directory

There is only a 'FIFO' file in the /var/spool/fax directory.
