flexfax: only half page comes through

I am trying to send a text file with sendfax,
the fist half of the page comes through, but then there
is a half-empty page.
from the typerules I learned that the textfmt program is 
used to convert the text to postscript.
I tried the same command manually, and viewed the result
with ghostscript: no problem there.
the receiving fax machine reports an error on 
page xxx (the half one)

any hints?
