flexfax: Resetting the faxmodem after a send?

I have HylaFax 4.0p1 running on Linux 2.0.29 and after a fax has been
sent the faxmodem is left in an inconsistent state. 

The fax is sent at 0:11, the fax line rings at 09:09 and the faxmodem
answers the line, and immediately disconnects. Can someone provide some
light on why the modem is not reseting or hanging up after a send.
