Try using ps2fax, and look at the tiffg3 file generated with viewfax
on UNIX systems (from ftp://ftp.sgi.com/sgi/fax/contrib/).

I suspect that your Postscript files are not compatible with the
ghostscript conversion. Take a look at the ps2fax script, and take
a look at your version of ghostscript or dps used to convert the
document.
