flexfax: hfaxd quits

I'm running HylaFAX 4.0pl1 on FreeBSD 2.2.1 on P-200 with 128Megs RAM using
7 Multitech Multimodems 2834ZDX.

My hfaxd seemingly randomly quits.  There is nothing noted in syslog or anywhere
that I can find.  No cores anywhere. Where might I find the reason why it quits?

It's happened three times in the past week.

I start it from rc.d/hylafax.sh with:
/usr/local/sbin/hfaxd -i 4559 &

faxq and faxgetty keep going though.

Drives me crazy since I don't know that it quits until I start seeing error 
messages that faxes aren't going through.
