flexfax: HylaFAX-4.0pl1 (linux RPM) won't answer phone.

Hi all;

  After a disk crash I 'upgraded' to Red Hat 4.1 and installed the RPM
of HylaFAX-4.0pl1 from the binaries archive at SGI. I got it installed,
the servers come up fine. I can telent & ftp into them. Sendfax,queues
up fine. However I can't get faxgetty to answer the phone, even though 
the system getty and PPP work fine.
   Other then a new disk, HylaFAX worked fine with my slackware install
I had been using, so I know the modem works  with HylaFAX. After I use
faxconfig to set RingsBeforeAnswer to 2, I use kermit to check the modem
and S0=0 after every time. 
   I've looked in the mailing-list archive and nothing popped up. Could
someone please help me figure this out??
