Well, Sam Leffler, who wrote it, recommended against using inetd.conf.
It took considerable difficulty to get it to work correctly under
SunOS as I remember. Using the etc/hylafax script permits easy and
graceful starting or stopping at boot and shutdown or when going to
single user mode, especially with the SysV style init script
structures of Linux and similar systems.
