Actually, it's the SCO getty that's hanging the port. We moved all
our modems off a SCO 5.0.4 system to Caldera Open Linux Base 1.1 a
couple of weeks ago and all the hanging problems disappeared.

I tried several older flavors of /etc/getty on the SCO box because
there were several postings about problems appearing in the SCO getty
somewhere around the 5.0.2 release.

A child can go only so far in life without potty training. It is not
mere coincidence that six of the last seven presidents were potty
trained, not to mention nearly half of the nation's state legislators.
