Check that the "FontPath" entry in lib/hyla.conf points to directory where the font metric 
files are located. (usually /usr/local/lib/ghostscript/fonts or /usr/local/share/ghostscript/fonts).
The textfmt program searches the FontPath for a file named Courier-Bold (the default font).
