linux: port 4559 already in use

hi, this concerns linux-kernel 2.0.
i tried hylafax-i386-linux-v4.0pl1-1 and have a lot of problems:
(i used hylafax over two years on a personal indy without problems)
during boottime there is a message like: FIFO.cua3 cannot open file
but my modem lights are flickering and seem to get the modem in a 
fax awaiting state. FIFO.cua3 exists like it should.
next thing is: 
>faxstat       
Password:
Login failed: 500 'PASS ': Syntax error, expecting password.
and furthermore i found the message in my 
/var/adm/syslog:
HylaFAX[177]:
HylaFAX INET:
bind (port 4555): 
Address already in use
and if i use tkhylafax after send my sceen is frozen and on a
console i get the ps -ax faxcover became a zombie.
what does it all mean ??? any help would be appreciated
