Here is another way to phrase my problem:
boogie 44# cu -l ttyf2
Connect failed: NO DEVICES AVAILABLE
from man cu
If the device is not found in the Devices file, an error message similar
to
NO DEVICES AVAILABLE
is printed.
from /etc/uucp/Devices:
boogie 45# cat /etc/uucp/Devices | grep ttyf2
ACU ttyf2 null 9600 212 x zdx
ACU ttyf2 null 14400 212 x zdx
ACU ttyf2 null 19200 212 x zdx
ACU ttyf2 null 38400 212 x zdx
What could be wrong?
Well, Liam, I dunno. However, I don't use cu for such testing: it's a bit
too low-level and requires absolutely correct configuration, and its
error reports are less than complete.
May I suggest that you install and use "kermit" from
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/archives/cku192.tar.gz
This has much better control, especially for unconfigured modem lines.
