Modem not recognized
Setup: HylaFAX v4.0pl1 under Linux 2.0.29 with gcc 2.7.2;
USRobotics Sportster Vi 33600 Faxmodem on /dev/ttyS1
The command faxstat prints:
HylaFAX scheduler on hermes.tc.de: Running
But no modem is recognized. I configured HylaFAX with faxaddmodem/faxmodem
and I would expect
HylaFAX scheduler on hermes.tc.de: Running
Modem ttyS1 (+49 221 9252NNN): Running and idle
After double-checking my setup I decided to generate debug messages. Via
syslog I only get
May 4 22:12:11 Hermes HylaFAX[4907]: HylaFAX INET Protocol Server: restarted.
May 4 22:12:11 Hermes HylaFAX[4907]: HylaFAX Old Protocol Server: restarted.
May 4 22:12:11 Hermes HylaFAX[4907]: HylaFAX SNPP Protocol Server: restarted.
May 4 22:14:34 Hermes FaxQueuer[4928]: HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.0pl1
May 4 22:14:34 Hermes FaxQueuer[4928]: Copyright (c) 1990-1996 Sam Leffler
May 4 22:14:34 Hermes FaxQueuer[4928]: Copyright (c) 1991-1996 Silicon
Graphics, Inc.
so I decided to use "strace" to track the error down. I get mysterious
messages when stracing "faxstate":
chdir("/var/spool/fax") = 0
open("FIFO.ttyS1", O_WRONLY|O_NONBLOCK) = -1 ENXIO (No such device or address)
Similar messages appear when stracing "faxq":
4161 chdir("/var/spool/fax") = 0
[..]
4162 stat("FIFO.ttyS1", {st_mode=S_IFIFO|0666, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
4162 stat("etc/config.ttyS1", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=3299, ...}) = 0
[..]
4162 open("FIFO.ttyS1", O_WRONLY|O_NONBLOCK) = -1 ENXIO (No such device
or address)
But the file is definetly there:
dir /var/spool/fax/FIFO.ttyS1
prw------- 1 uucp uucp 0 May 4 22:01 /var/spool/fax/FIFO.ttyS1
Does anybody encountered a similar behaviour under Linux? What's going
wrong? I'm using libc 5.4.20.
Thanks in advance
