I don't know your modem type (and I've no modem w/ &A0); please
look into your modem manual and check if one of the AT-commands
at :38.17 and :38.68 (or the defaults from profile or commands before)
puts your modem in a "set DTE speed to DCE speed" mode, e.g.
switch the DTE-speed to 1200 after CARRIER is on; the DTE is locked
and should be at 38400;
